Solar Shades
Solar shades are incredibly popular solutions here in Los Angeles for home and business owners alike.
They offer a beautiful, sleek, modern appearance that many home owners love. Because they’re less opaque than roller shades, you can allow in plenty of natural light and maintain your view even with them closed.
Opacities vary, allow you to choose your level of view and UV protection. Unlike other shades, opacity with solar shades is determined by how open the weave of material is. A 1% “openness” of solar shades, for example, offers 99% UV protection, but the least amount of view. A 10% openness on the other hand offers a lot more clear view through closed shades, but 90% UV protection.
They’re wonderful at reflecting back heat or absorbing it to prevent your home from heating up in direct sunlight, which can also lower your energy bills. Not to mention UV protection for your floors, furniture, art and other décor helps extend its life as well, since long-term exposure can bleach or damage other materials.
It’s worth noting that solar shades do not offer nighttime privacy, so opt for roller shades in areas like bedrooms or bathrooms.
Dual Shades – Two Shades in One
Roller and solar shades offer something incredibly unique – a combination option!
Dual shades offer both a roller shade and a solar shade together that can operate separately.
That way, you can pull down your solar shade during the day to filter and reduce heat from sunlight and block UV rays. Then in the evening, lower the roller shade for privacy and darkness. You also could lower the roller shade at the hottest parts of the day to keep the sun out, while leaving the solar shade for indirect times of day.
